A French sketcher and photographer; his family’s wealth allowed him to travel for 3 years through Italy, Greece, Turkey, Syria and Egypt. During his travels, he took more than 800 photographs that today are part of the first and oldest photographic documentation of the architecture of the Mediterranean and the Middle East. After his return to France, he did lithographs, gouaches and ink drawings based on his photographs, but strangely enough, his legacy was not discovered until 1920.
